Monaco, January 13th

The “Holy Land Emergency” project, promoted by the Embassy of the Order of Malta in Monaco, was born with the aim of also responding to a specific request for assistance from the Order of Malta in Lebanon. This request, titled “Make a WISH – A Warm Winter”, has been identified as a priority emergency intervention to address the challenges of winter in some of the most vulnerable regions of the country.

During winter, essential supplies become vital to ensure the survival of the most vulnerable people, whether displaced or resident. The communities supported by the Lebanese centres of the Order of Malta include people who have lost their primary belongings, their jobs, or who live in extremely precarious conditions due to conflict and economic difficulties.

The social workers of the Order of Malta in Lebanon are conducting a careful assessment of the needs of the various communities, aiming to provide adequate winter equipment. This includes blankets, warm clothing, heating, and other essential items to face the harsh temperatures. The areas targeted for intervention include Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Bekaa, Akkar, Nabatieh, South Lebanon, and Baalbeck Hermel.

Thanks to the donations collected on November 27 during the Charity Dinner in Milan (https://monacoembassy.orderofmalta.int/en/news/a-charity-dinner-in-milan-for-the-holy-land/), we are now able to send the 25,000 euros needed to cover the first three months of the project. These funds represent a crucial first step in ensuring immediate support for those most in need.

To ensure the continuity of the project and meet the constantly changing needs of vulnerable communities, we rely on the generosity of the residents of the Principality of Monaco. Additional donations will be essential to extend the intervention and provide support throughout the winter period.

The “Holy Land Emergency” initiative is a concrete example of how international solidarity can make a difference, bringing hope and support to populations in severe distress.
